High School Life Essay Example for Free
High School Life Essay It was in the year 2009, I was a graduating elementary student back then, when our adviser talked to me, together with my fellow honor students, regarding our plans after graduation. The conversation included where we wanted to study in high school. Most of us said that a simple school will do, whatââ¬â¢s important for us back then was to have a school. That simple. After a few words, our adviser said that there is prestigious school inviting us to study there. Our initial reaction was, of course, we have no money to pay for the tuition fee. But then, she said that we need not worry, because the school offers us 100% scholarship, with a weekly allowance. We were delighted by the news. Imagine being a scholar of Notre Dame of Greater Manila. That is something to be proud of. So we were scheduled for an exam. We were so nervous. After several days of waiting, the results came out. And I was the one chosen to be the scholar! When my mom told me the news, I was really overjoyed. It would be my first time to study in a private school, prestigious one even. I went to the school to arrange my requirements there. That was when I knew that I am a De Mazenod Lingap Talino (DMLT) scholar, who would enjoy 100% scholarship and weekly allowance. What a privilege! I also met there Mr. Diego Reyes, or Sir Jigs, as what the whole institution calls him, and Maââ¬â¢am Sofie. They were the ones who helped me during my stay there as a scholar. My first year was tough. A lot of adjustments were done. Of course, Iââ¬â¢m not used to having classmates who are techy and rich. They talked about this gadget and that gadget, which, in my previous school, is not an issue. Iââ¬â¢m not used to seeing signature clothes and bags. So I didnââ¬â¢t know how I would approach them. Iââ¬â¢m not rich as them. I am just a simple girl. Another reason why Iââ¬â¢m afraid is because I thought I would not be accepted there. I am different, physically. Before the first day of school, I imagined the Damers teasing me and bullying me. And I imagined myself ignoring them, as if they donââ¬â¢t exist, and when Iââ¬â¢m alone, Iââ¬â¢d cry a lot just to let the feelings out. I thought I would be an outcast, a loner, weirdo in their eyes. But I was completely wrong. I gained a lot of friends, much many than I thought Iââ¬â¢d have. My first impression of them was wrong. They are not like what I see in the movies, rich people who are arrogant and rude. They understand my situation. They are open-minded. They are real. They may tease me but that was only natural, I do not get offended. They are real, true friends. Of course, the teachers are a plus. I thought they would not like me, especially the Math teachers, because Iââ¬â¢m really weak in that particular subject. I really like Math, but I guess the feeling ainââ¬â¢t mutual. Until now, I still use finger Math. I am extremely slow in solving problems. I thought Math teachers would lose their patience on me, ignore my presence in the cream class because they would think I donââ¬â¢t belong there, because I am a weakling. But then again, I was W-R-O-N-G. Math teachers in Notre are exactly the opposite of what I thought they would be. They are very kind, especially Mrs. Narciso, Ms.Padlan, Mr.R and Mr. Zuniga. They were the ones whom I spend my Math classes with during my entire stay in high school. They were the ones who taught me Math and helped me to improve my skills in that field. They showed me that I am not a weakling, I still have hope. Whoo. But of course, there were my second parents. Mrs. Mercado and Mrs. Asis who served as my mothers, and Mr. Saplagio as my dad. They were the ones whom I turn to and cry on whenever I have problems. And all of the teachers in Notre, who may seem terror and scary inside the classrooms, but outside, they are one of your bestest best friends. Being a scholar isnââ¬â¢t as easy as anyone thinks. Itââ¬â¢s really tough maintaining your grades. It is stressing to think about your grades when they are going down. They say grades are just numbers, but I depend on those numbers. My scholarship depends on those numbers. I usually envy those who can just have fun while I am at my room studying even if thereââ¬â¢s no exam. And of course, as a scholar, I should be a role model to others. I should take care of my reputation. But of course doing that is a bit hard. As the saying goes, ââ¬Å"Character is what you are; reputation is what people think you are.â⬠What if my character is different from my reputation? Yes, that happens all the time. But I just maintain my character and ignore those who pull me down by saying things about me behind my back. That made me stronger. Notre gave me a lot of experiences that I would not forget. Notre gave me people that I am thankful for. But of course, I would receive none of these if it wasnââ¬â¢t for the DMLT, for giving me this very wonderful opportunity to study in the institution. I am just a simple girl from a family who cannot afford the services of Notre. But because of Notreââ¬â¢s awareness of the students out there who are not financially able, yet deserving to have quality education, and itââ¬â¢s willingness to reach out to them, I was able to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. Now, I am going to study in my dream school, the University in the Philippines, one of the most prestigious universities in the whole country. With the help of Notre, I was able to get this dream of mine. It equipped me with enough knowledge and skills to face the challenges ahead. My life in Notre had been stressful, yet everything was all worth it. For this, I would like to express my deep gratitude. Thank you, Notre Dame.

Comparing First Dates in Sottos Oranges and Wetherells The Bass, the
First Dates in Sotto's Oranges and Wetherell's The Bass, the River, and Shelia Mant Everyone is born with innocence and they gradually gain experience through lessons learned in life; some people may gain more that others. Not all lessons in life are dramatic or negative, some may be subtle, positive, or even life altering; however, no matter how small or big, they do alter one's perspective on things and help them to gain experience, which will be with them forever. These experiences may be gained through love, war, or death, but in some way or another they have changed one's point of view. The works "Oranges", written by Gary Sotto, and "The Bass, the River, and Shelia Mant", written by W.D. Wetherell, both tell about a boys first love and his first date. First loves and first dates is something that can be related to by everyone, whether boy or girl. These two works show that the outcome of a first date may not be what one expected, but in the end something more may be learned. In "The Bass, the River, and Shelia Mant", the speaker fell in love with a beautiful girl named Shelia Mant, which was the only thing that he loved more than fishing. He watched her everyday sunbathing on the dock. He watched her so much that he learned what mood she was in by the position she was laying. When the summer was almost over he got up enough nerve to ask her out. To his surprise she said yes. They went to see a band, however, since he was only fourteen they took a canoe. While rowing the canoe he had his fishing pole on the back, because he never left the house without it. Little did he know that Shelia thought fishing was dumb. So, during the entire canoe ride he is trying to hide the fishing pole, which is hanging o... ...h the speaker from "The Bass, the River, and Shelia Mant" did not have a great first date or love, he learned to be himself, not to change who he was so someone will like him. Although both speakers lost their innocence and gained experience in love and dating, they still have a lot more to learn in both. Innocence may be loss in a subtle or life altering way, negative or positive, but when all is said and done the experience gained will help one to succeed in life. Works Cited Lessing, Doris. African Negro Art Essay
In â⬠Walker Evans: The Hungry Eyeâ⬠, author Gilles Mora attempts to capture and represent every significant aspect of the photographerââ¬â¢s life and times via his art work. Evans was a Depression-era photographer with the Farm Security Administration and later editor of Fortune magazine. His work was featured in Time magazine and he was the first photographer to be given a solo show at New Yorkââ¬â¢s Museum of Modern Art in 1938. In 1935, he had his first photograph display at the museum, a series he called ââ¬Å"African Negro Art. â⬠Evans did not initially set out to be a photographer, but ended up as part of a class of FSA photographers that included such greats as Dorothea Lange and Ansel Adams. He was born to well-to-do parents in St. Louis in 1903 and attend college in New York for a year before going to Paris to see the world. In 1927, he returned to the New York literary scene making friends with others who would go on to have a huge impact on his career. He first began taking photographs in 1928 and worked on Wall Street as a clerk to a stockbroker until the stock market crash in 1929. A year later his first photographs, of the Brooklyn Bridge, were published in a book of poetry by Hart Crane. During the Depression, Evans toured Cuba where he met Earnest Hemingway and worked for the Resettlement Administration in West Virginia before joining the FSA. He spent a great deal of time shooting American architecture as a manner of recording history and life and also spent 3 weeks living with sharecroppers in Alabama for a piece for Time magazine that James Agee was supposed to write. The piece did not meet Timeââ¬â¢s standards, but he and Agee would publish the story and photos in 1941 in Let Us Now Praise Famous Menâ⬠Evans primarily used an 8â⬠by 10â⬠large format camera for his Depression era work, though he would switch to 35 mm in his later years. He is primarily known for his attempt to document life as it was without the influence of the photographer being felt in the photographs. This was, of course, impossible given the medium that he was using. The large size format combine with the film type meant that often his subjects would have to remain motionless for several minutes while the film was exposing. Still, even his staged photographs appeared to be accurate scenes of life in the South in the Depression. During World War II, Evans was a regular contributor to Time magazine and after the war he joined the staff of Fortune magazine where he was a regular contributor until 1965. In 1965, he left the magazine to become a professor of graphic design at Yale Univeristy in New Haven, Conn., where he remained until his death in 1975. Evans is best known for his Depression era work, but he also did several series after the war attempting to document American life. He did a series about American industrialization s shot from a moving train and about the people of New York City that he shot on the subway with a camera hidden in his coat. Evans is credited with having a strong influence on several American artists most notably Andy Warhol, who may have gotten the idea for his photo-booth series from work that Evans had done in a photo-booth. It is believed that Evans began experimenting with the use of photo booth imagery as early as 1929 in an attempt to divest himself from the role of artist in the taking of the photograph. Evans argued throughout most of his life in favor of the idea that photography should be a record of what was and not an artistic medium. Mora attempts to depict Evansââ¬â¢ work in a manner as closely as possible to the way they were originally presented, meaning some reproductions in the book are small and difficult to appreciate, but as a whole Evansââ¬â¢ body of work is amazing for its depiction of the human spirit.

Relational And Non Relational Database Model Essay
2 Literature Review Many theories have been written to clearly explain the concept of relational and non-relational databases. Although those literature hightligted varieties of significant theories, this review will attempt to establish a clear meaning of relational and non-relational database Concept, NoSQL data model, ACID and Base properties, CAP Theorem and Scalability. Furthermore, it will attempt to critically evaluate structured and unstructured data, elucidate on the strength and weakness of relational and NoSQL databases and give an overview of the benchmarks used to evaluate the reliability and performance of databases. 2.1 Relational and Non-Relational Database Concept The relational database model was invented in 1970, by Edgar Ted Codd, a Mathematician at IBMââ¬â¢s San Jose Research Lab in California, United States of America. At the time, nobody realized that Coddââ¬â¢s theories would spark a technological database revolution. Until 1970, a database stored large volume of data using hierarchical data model that was difficult to navigate and lacks flexibility [8]. Today, the benefits brought to us by relational database model are enormous. Ted Codd in his paper titled A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banksâ⬠, he created and visualize the concepts for organizing and accessing data that is embodied in the relational database, he proposed that data should be structured according to principles based on identified relations [9]. The two brothers bought a bankrupt Goldââ¬â¢s Gym in Leominster, Massachusetts in 1992 that turned out to be a terrible mistake, as they were evicted shortly after. This mistake affected the brotherââ¬â¢s finances immensely, but helped them gain the knowledge that would catapult them into the position they are into today. Co-founder Marc Grondahl highlighted this in an interview with American Express saying, ââ¬Å"We didnââ¬â¢t have enough experience, the location was bad and it didnââ¬â¢t have enough parking. Question: Discuss About The Business Innovation Corporate Sustainability? These are the management actions which the top management takes on behalf of the owners of the company and their motive behind such actions is to formulate efficiency in the internal and external environment of the organization (Mithas, Ramasubbu, and Sambamurthy2011). Michael Porter identified three basic principles to determine the strategic management, these principles are: Creation of unique and valuable position in the market. Compromise activities to archive satisfaction and determine activities which shall not be done. Creation of profit by aligning the company's activities with a strategic mission. The linear model of this approach focuses on the planning process and achieving goals as per the strategy defined. Further talking about the strategic management, there are a few limitations which the business faces like the process of strategy initiate a direction in which the company has to run. Irrespective of the chances which a company receives in their way or shortcomings they have to move to the same path. Also, the fact is that the growth is not definite, as there are many fluctuations present in the environment (Slack 2015). Further, the report provides an overview of the different strategic management approaches, its explanations and implication in different companies. Approaches to strategic management There are numerous theories defined which assist the process of strategic management in an organization. Depending upon the size and the type of business activity which they conduct, the management theories are applied in an organization (ORiordan, and Fairbrass 2014). Thus the below mentioned are a few approaches to the strategic management which a business shall apply in order to sufficiently manage its workings. Stakeholder Approach to strategic management The stakeholder management approach is the strategy which helps the management to focus on the requirements and services attained by the stakeholders of the organization. It is a critical aspect which initiates success of an organization by delivering products and services according to the aspiration of the stakeholders. Stakeholder is a term which includes all the people connected with the activities held in an organization. It includes creditors, debtors, shareholders, prospective customers, suppliers etc. An effective stakeholder management system develops positive relationship with the management with the stakeholders of the organization by initiating appropriate activities to generate greater satisfaction (LawTearcher 2017). The process is planned and implemented considering certain rules and principles defined according to the interest of stakeholders. Further there is an interdependent relation between the organization and stakeholders. This process initiates autonomy in the h and of stakeholders. The theory can be looked in a way that if the management will work by considering the interest off stakeholder, then subsequently the stakeholders will perceive more from the organization. Thus, this process will result in generation of greater income for the organization as there is increase in satisfaction level as well (Noland, and Phillips 2010). Further the stakeholder theory is implemented in six following ways: Identification of stakeholder: according to Carroll, the beginning of this process should be with identification of prospective stakeholders. With identification it will begin easier for the company to develop relationship with them and initiate activities accordingly. A Clear description of stakes: under this process the management needs to ascertain the share which is held by the different stakeholder groups of the organization. Consideration of claims: under this process, the company shall aim to comply with the legitimacy, power and urgency attributes in their organization. Legitimacy refers to the process in which the company shall abide the laws defined to maintain the interest of stakeholder. Power refers to the authority which the stakeholders receive to take actions. Urgency refers to the critical issues shall be entertained on a prior basis which is related to stakeholders interest (Mundy 2010). Estimation of opportunities: under this process the organization shall evaluate the opportunity and risks where hindrance of stakeholders can affect the growth of the organization. Responsibilities to stakeholder: it includes the ethical obligation of the company to share the information with stakeholder which requires their approval. Implementation of stakeholder beneficial strategies and actions: considering all the above aspects the management shall initiate activities concerning the interest of stakeholders. They shall also fulfill the corporate social responsibility of the company. The organization shall prioritize the interest of stakeholders and shall establish a definite communication plan to make them trust the company (Wilden, et. al., 2013). Example of stakeholder approach One of the companies which use the stakeholder approach in their management is Coca-Cola Company. The company efficiently uses this approach to initiate business suitability in their organization. Keeping the interest of stakeholders laid in their business the company coca cola initiated various activities in their business process like they applied golden triangle partnership approach in their firm. This approach involved spanning the social, civil, public and private sector; also they embraced the practice of partnership by collectively work on the sectors which were isolated and under-noticed (Crane, and Matten 2016). In another way they initiated the SWPP (Source Water Protection Plans) so as to provide benefits to the local stakeholders and community members' who are connected with the company. The company coca cola conducted a stakeholder engagement session under which all the stakeholders were welcomed and conversation of held with them. The factors which disturb their interes t was talked and other social issues were overlooked which can positively affect the growth of the company. Coca-cola also welcomed the suggestions and feedback. Thus, the company initiated the stakeholder approach in this way (Armstrong, and Taylor 2014). Dynamics Capabilities Dynamic capabilities are the capability of an organization to integrate and initiate activities by efficiently using all the resources available to them. This concept basically puts emphasis on the capabilities of an organization to perform efficiently, and the ways in which the management shall work so that the resources are utilized optimally. The theory regards the guidelines which the senior management of the organization shall apply with them to continue their activities towards achievement of organizational objective. Further the theory includes three capabilities which are mandatory for an organization to inherit to meet challenges. First is the ability of employees to learn and adapt changes, other is integration of new assets of an organization so that company process is initiated. Lastly, the transformation and reuse of assets utilized earlier (Helfat, and Winter 2011). Further the stages in dynamic capabilities are discussed below: Learning: it is the first stage of the dynamic capabilities approach under which the employees of the management are required to re schedule their routine; and initiate interaction and communication in a way which leads to solution of various problem of the organization. Change in employee's routine will lead to reorganization of various functions of the organization; also it will reduce the dysfunctioning of the organization by initiating communication. Human resource is the most important asset of the organization who carry on business activities, thus if the internal sources are alliance and co-ordinated with each other, then subsequently positive efficiency is transformed. New Assets: this phase states that the assets present in an organization create and increases the prevailing efficiency in an organization. Thus, implying to the case quality performance in an organization is initiated only when assets of the organization are adequately informed and used to drive efficiency (Pierce, and Aguinis 2013). Transformation of available resources: the fact shall be understood that in fluctuating market, an organization can only achieve success when they configure all the assets available to them and drive it in the correct direction to achieve success. The external and internal factors shall be aligned together so that the objective of the organization is achieved. Co specialization: development of the capabilities of an organization within time is called co-specialization. Like, if the organization optimally uses all the resources available t them, and if they continue to use the resources in this way only, then co specialization will be created. Example of Dynamic capabilities approach Further discussing the examples of dynamic capabilities, the companies like apple and IBM uses this type of approach to sustain in the market and provide a good impression in front of customers. Talking about apple, the company has obtained optimum resources which are required to initiate differentiated products in the environment. And the best thing is that the company adequately uses such resources to drive best benefits to the company along with customers. The company is not signified as a technological leader but it is a master in marketing technology-based product differentially. By impressively featuring the products the customers get attracted and the success is derived. Thus, in this way the company Apple optimally uses their available resources and initiates success (Helfat 2013). Sustainable Approach Sustainable development refers to the process under which the management focuses on the process of developing their organization sustainably. Sustainability refers to the process of growth by using the resources available to them in an adequate manner and not harassing them. If sustainable development is made then it can be said that the organization can easily think of surviving in long run. Further, there are three aspects of sustainability which are the environment, need to the present ad the future generation (Schaltegger, Ldeke-Freund, and Hansen 2012). Thus the fact shall be considered that if an organization aggressively uses the resources available to an organization then ultimately one day all of them will end resulting to which, it will become tough for the future generation to survive. In accordance with which the government of countries adopted the method of corporate social responsibility under which the companies have to think of the environment and nature in which they are prevailing and act accordingly. Their activities should not disturb the natural activities of the environments, also all the companies shall aim to sustain the natural resources available to them (Collins, and Kearins2010). The manager of the organization shall plan sustainably concerning major factors which affect the growth of the organization. Like, they shall use light which involves less electricity and emit less carbon so that global warming activities are reduced. Also, it is their corporate social responsibility to abide the social norms created by the government. Thus, the fact of sustainable management that shall be considered is that, in order to succeed with the mission such type of management, the manager shall look after the activities which degrade the condition of the environment; also they shall adopt sustainable activities to assist the future generation (Pearlson, Saunders, and Galletta 2016). Further talking about the services model that should be initiated in an organization with respect to sustainable approach is that with the changing industrial functioning organization also should replenish the resources available to them use it in a sustainable manner. Firstly the managers have to analyze the relation of the company with the customers and prioritize this aspect also apart from selling process. This will initiate a fundamental change in the organization culture and will initiate better efficiency of the organization. Further, they shall initiate to recycle the waste available to them and drive energy out of it (Jacobs, Chase, and Lummus 2011). Example of sustainability approach Talking about the company which uses the sustainable approach to flourish the market share is the Starbucks Company; the company initiated their stakeholders to invest in their project of ethically sourcing coffee beans so that rich and pure coffee is supplied to all. Thus, in this way, a sustainable approach in the management process is initiated by the organization. The suppliers and the local community of the organization were involved in this activity which resulted in sustainable farming coffee beans due to which Starbucks goal of ethically sourcing 100% pure coffee was implemented (Walker, Damanpour, and Devece 2010). Thus with this effect, organic products were supplied to the customers by the company initiating sustainable development for them. Another example of the company which strategically used the sustainable development approach and achieved success is Adobe Company. The software company aimed to reduce the carbon emission and use efficiently use renewable resources. Thus, due to this reason, an identified image of the company was created in the market (Bonn, and Fisher 2011). Limitation of approaches The initial problem in conducting the stakeholder approach is that the company faces problems in determining the stakeholders of the organization. They face difficulty in analyzing the people who are actually connected and affected with the working of the organization and who all are not. Apart from this, the problem arises when the interest of the stakeholder is measured in monetary terms. Like, the share of suppliers and localities is a major concern for the company because if the autonomy is given to them then it will become difficult for the company to take actions and carry on business activities (Willard 2012). Another limitation in dynamic capabilities approach is that the companies using this approach usually harass the resources available to them in order to gain the competitive advantage in the organization. They do not understand the difference between using optimally and using excessively. Thus resulting to which in order to gain competence resources are used in greater amount and wastage is instigated. Problem with the sustainable approach is that, although the approach is a part of the business management project but many times it becomes difficult for the organization to align the interest of the corporate with sustainable environmental activities due to which firm faces managing issues (Asif, et. al., 2011). Conclusion In the limelight of above mention events, the facts that shall be taken into consideration is that with the use of strategic management approaches an organization can work effectively to sustain their growth in the market. Apart from that, the process helps the organization to gain the trust of its shareholder, due to which goodwill of the company is created in the market. But there are some limitations of the approaches which act as a barrier to the growth of the organization. Thus, as the work strategic management suggests that the company should strategically use the resources and approaches and drive maximum benefits out of it. Recommendations From the above analysis, it is recommended o he firms using such approach that, the main purpose of an organization to sustain in the environment is to earn a profit. Although fulfilling the corporate social responsibility is one of the major aspects which the companies shall comply in their course of action but it is not their core business activity. Thus, while performing such business actions, the companies shall always prioritize their business activities and work accordingly. Also, they shall keep in mind the mission and vision of their respective organizations. References Armstrong, M. and Taylor, S., 2014. Armstrong's handbook of human resource management practice.
